Doug and Judy Bauer Recognized by Hands on Thomas County for Volunteer Service at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor

Couple receives Honorable Mention in the Individual Volunteer of the Year Award for facilitating dementia support group at the Thomasville senior living facility

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (May 12, 2016) – Doug and Judy Bauer, dedicated volunteers at Legacy Village at Planation Manor, received an honorable mention in the Individual Volunteer category at Hands on Thomas County’s Third Annual Cheers for Volunteers celebration on April 19.

The Bauers volunteer at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor twice a week and are facilitators of the Sawyer Dementia Support Group that meets on the last Thursday of every month.

Doug Bauer has been volunteering at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor for ten years. After retiring six years ago, Judy began volunteering as well.

“When Doug started volunteering there, he immediately fell in love with the residents and was so passionate about it. I was very excited to have the opportunity to join him in volunteering here,” Judy Bauer said.

“We both come from parents who have either suffered from Alzheimer’s in the past or currently suffer from it. We know how important it is to have people care about the residents and take to invest time in them. We want to help them enjoy life as much as possible,” Doug Bauer said.

“We couldn’t do what we do without great volunteers. We are beyond blessed to have Doug and Judy with us each week. We can’t say ‘thank you’ enough! They are so deserving of this award,” Sanford Giemza, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor’s Executive Director, said.
