Legacy Village at Plantation Manor Donates Ear Guards to Archbold Memorial Hospital to Alleviate Medical Mask Abrasion

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (April 24, 2020) – Many things have changed since the introduction of COVID-19 to south Georgia. One big change is the need to wear medical masks during entire daylong shifts, typically two masks at a time, which is causing painful abrasions on the ears of those in healthcare settings.

In addition to providing ear guards to its entire caregiving team, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor has procured additional bundles of ear guards for employees at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, including their Northside Hospital location, whose ears are needing similar relief from the painful elastic straps on their medical masks.

“The staff at Archbold and Northside have been amazing for our residents and have been fighting this pandemic with everything they’ve got. We heard that some staff had possibly developed pressure sores on the backs of their ears and this is one little way we can give back to them. Hopefully, this will provide some relief as they continue taking care of their patients. We want them to know they’re appreciated,” said Ashley Hurst, RN, resident services director at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor.
